TikTok adds new Duet formats, Twitter expands access to Voice Tweets

TikTok Adds More Duet Formats to Facilitate New Collaboration Opportunities

TikTok has announced the launch of three new duet options which provide new layouts for duet clips. What are duets you may be thinking? Duets enable TikTok users to respond to another user’s clip and interact with the original video, adding a new spin or a reaction to the original creator’s upload.

Duets have become a key part of TikTok videos and the interaction process. Users will now have even more ways to engage and participate based on other users’ content.

The new options include:

Left and right – This is the traditional Duet layout, which puts your video alongside the original clip

React – This gives you a streamer-style, picture-in-picture display to show your response to the original clip

Top and bottom – Overlays your new response above the original – which could lead to some interesting collaborations (see below)

Three screen – Enabling even more users to get involved in a single clip

It will be interesting to see if the use of duets will increase.

Twitter Expands Access to Voice Tweets, Re-Affirms Plans for Auto-Captions of Voice Messages

Twitter announced the new option to add audio clips to your tweets a few months back.

There seemed to be a heap of initial hype around the functionality, with celebrities posting audio clips, social media gurus devising new tweet strategies but the hype did not last. Audio clips seemingly don’t add any major functional benefit. But another reason is that the announcement was criticized by many for being inconsiderate to users who are unable to hear, essentially cutting them out of the conversation.

Now audio tweets are available to more iOS users, while Twitter has also re-affirmed its commitment to adding auto-captions for voice tweets as soon as possible.

Now more people have access to audio tweets, and soon, even more people will be able to enjoy the experience of seeing what people share via sound clips attached to their tweets, expanding context and understanding across the app. But even so, from a business and social marketing perspective, it may be worth considering how audio tweets might fit into your Twitter approach, and add something new and unique to your outreach.

And ideally, over time, the launch of captions for audio tweets will make it a more accessible, valuable option to consider.
